In zwei Wochen treffen sich die besten Schweizer Surfer in Zarautz für die Swiss Surfing Championships 2010! Und es gibt dieses Jahr besonders viel zu holen! Schweizermeisterschaft Bungeesurfing
Die Bungeesurfing Schweizermeisterschaften 2010 an der Aare in Rubigen, BE
vom vergangenen Wochenende waren ein voller Erfolg.
In der Szene schon sehr bekannt setzte sich Reto Schor aus Bern im Finale durch und gewann in der Kategorie Herren mit Abstand, gefolgt von Samuel „Sämi“ Frey und Frank Gerster auf den Rängen Zwei und Drei. Bei den Damen startete dieses Jahr leider nur Rachel Riner welche aber auch bei Anwesenheit der anderen Schweizer Bungeesurferinnen keinerlei Fragen offen gelassen hätte, wer die beste ist. Bei den Junioren gewann Dominik Deplazes vor Claudio de Capitani und Rafael Liebermann.

Nachbericht und Ranglisten 5. Wake Surf Festival 2010
Rebecca Ort und Martin Suter gewinnen die fünfte Ausgabe des grössten europäischen Wake Surf-Contests.
Wie es sich für eine Jubiläumsausgabe gehört, wurde am fünften Wake Surf Festival am Walensee so einiges geboten. Heisse Surfaction auf dem Wasser und musikalische Leckerbissen an Land lockten erneut unzählige Besucher ins beschauliche Murg, wo während 3 Tagen dem Surffeeling gefrönt wurde.

Ebenso zeigt der Film in anschaulichen Animationen, wie die polynesische Inselwelt durch die gewaltige Aktivität von Vulkanen auf dem Meeresgrund entstanden ist. In diesem Film kommen nicht nur Surffans in den Genuss der ultimativen Wellen.

"Ultimate Wave 3D - Surfparadies Tahiti " begleitet den neunfachen Surfweltmeister Kelly Slater auf der Suche nach der perfekten Welle und entführt die Besucher in die paradiesische Inselwelt Tahitis und Französisch-Polynesiens. Der tahitische Gastgeber Raimana Van Bastolaer empfängt Kelly im berühmten Surfernest Teahupo'o.
Einzigartige Bilder auf der Grossleinwand versetzen die Zuschauer buchstäblich in die paradiesische Naturlandschaft der Insel und der traumhaften Unterwasserwelt vor Tahiti. Sie spüren die Kraft der polynesischen Rhythmen und werden Zeugen uralter Bräuche, wie des Feuertanzes, welche zu Ehren alter Gottheiten aufgeführt wird. Ride For The Cause - International Surfing Day
This year, we have scheduled the ISD 2010 in Montreux in favor of WAVES for Development a day before in order to allow our friends from Zürich and around to participate.
Come to Montreux and "Ride For The Cause". Half of the income done this day will be donated to the non profit WAVES for Development.
The biggest Surfers Circle on the Geneva lake ever will be done at 14h30. So bring your boards and participate to this communitary event.
This year the Swiss snowboarding company Nidecker is offering free introduction to Stand Up Paddle!

Wake Surf Festival 2010
Das Schweizer Wake Surf Festival feiert dieses Jahr das 5jährige Jubiläum. Wie gewohnt mit heisser Surfaction auf dem türkisfarbenen Wasser, mitreissenden Live-Konzerten und Parties direkt am Ufer des Walensees, umringt von einer imposanten Berglandschaft.
Zum bereits 5. Mal findet dieses Jahr Mitte Juli das legendäre Wake Surf Festival statt. Vom 16. bis 18. Juli können die Skills der national und international besten Wakesurfer am Contest hautnah bestaunt werden.

Surf-Schweizermeisterschaften 2009
Dass ein Schweizer Binnenland-Schweizer Surfmeister wird, dass passiert höchst selten – und dann auch noch ein Säuliämtler! Der Aargauer Martin Suter wurde Surf-Schweizermeister im Jahr 2007. Dieses Jahr schied der Flusssurfer Martin aber zu Jedermanns überraschen in der zweiten Runde aus. Normalerweise dominieren Auslandschweizer, welche den Schweizer Pass in der Tasche haben und am Meer wohnen, den Kampf um den Schweizermeistertitel im Surfen.
Roland Hauser hat in dem Final-Heat an den Schweizer-Meisterschaften (23. und 24. September 2009 in Vieux-Boucau, Frankreich) alles riskiert, und sich gegen zwei Franzosen-Schweizer und ein Australier-Schweizer mit zwei grossen Wellen durchgesetzt. Er gewann diesen Wettkampf durch sein vehementes und wettkampforientiertes Surfen – zum ersten mal für ihn! Somit ist er und der zweit platzierte Gabriel Benessens qualifiziert für das «Swiss Surfing Team», welches nächsten Sommer an die Weltmeisterschaften, höchstwahrscheinlich in Peru, reisen wird.
Bei den Frauen konnte sich Céline Gehret durchsetzten. Die nach England ausgewanderte Baselbieterin vermag sich durch kraftvolle Turns gegen ihr Kontrahentinnen durchzusetzen und holte sich den Titel zum dritten Mal in Serie (insgesamt 4x). Auch Sie war diesen Sommer im «Swiss Surfing Team» in Costa Rica mit an Start.

Limmatwave-Demo am 22. August um 12:30 Uhr
Zum vierten Mal findet am nächsten Samstag 22.August auf der Limmat in Zürich eine Surfer-Demo für die Limmatwave statt. Damit möchte der Verein Stehende Welle die Zürcher Bürger darauf aufmerksam machen, dass es genug Sportler gibt, die eine Stehende Welle als Sportanlage für nötig halten. Surfer und Kanute paddeln vom Zürichsee ca. 1km die Limmat bis zum Platzspitz-Park. Die Demonstration ist bei der Polizei angemeldet und bewilligt. Eine Teilnahme geschieht jedoch auf eigene Gefahr.
Start: Am Samstag, 22. August 2009 um 12:30 treffen wir uns beim Bürkliplatz seeseitig bei der Rampe bei den Schwänen, zwischen dem Dampfschiffsteg und dem kleinen Limmatschiff-Steg. Parkplätze hat es keine, du musst mit dem öffentlichen Verkehr oder zu Fuss kommen. Beim Bürkliplatz herrscht für Autos Halteverbot.
Ende: Die Demo geht gemäss Bewilligung auch dieses Jahr bis zum Platzspitz-Park. Dort ist sie offiziell zu Ende. Danach können wir uns bei gutem Sound auf ein Bier im sehr nahen Jugendhaus Dynamo treffen.
Geschenk: Damit es auch richtig nach Hawaii aussieht verschenkt Alprausch auch dieses 200 Blumen-Leys (die Blumenhalsbänder der Hawaiianer). Einen herzlichen Dank an Andi Tanner!
Kleidertransport: Damit du deine Boardbag und deine Kleider am Ende der Demo wieder hast, organisieren wir einen Kleidertransport. Nimm wenn möglich eine Tasche mit. Für verloren gegangene Sachen können wir nicht haften.
Sicherheit. WICHTIG: Surfer haben KEINE LEASH am Brett! Also kein Gummikabel am Fuss, das sie mit dem Brett verbindet. Das ist im Fluss wegen der Brückenpfeiler zu gefährlich.Um die Bewilligung zu kriegen, musten wir es mit der Sicherheit genau nehmen: Den Demozug begleiten ortskundige Kanuten und auch ein Arzt ist dabei. Er ist durch die roten Baywatch-Rettungsboje erkennbar.

Zwar schafften es die Schweizer Surferinnen und Surfer einige der 20min andauernden Heats in der ersten Runde auf den zweiten Platz zu surfen, und somit eine Runde weiterzukommen. Das Level an diesem Wettkampf war jedoch so hoch, dass es ab der zweiten Runde kein Weiterkommen mehr gab. Dennoch schafft es die Schweiz noch vor Jamaica auf dem 27. Platz in der Gesamtwertung. Dies ist ein eher ernüchterndes Resultat wenn es mit vergangenen Surf-Weltmeisterschaften verglichen.

Deutschland, Österreich und die Schweiz bekommen nun endlich auch ihren
ersten Big Wave Contest. Gleichzeitig wird das beste Surffoto aller Zeiten
gesucht.
Mike Jucker, ausgewanderter Binnenland-Flusssurfer und Mitgründer des Online
Surfshops http://www.mikejucker.com, hat diese Contests ins Leben gerufen.
„Big Wave Contests gibt es schon einige, aber nicht hier“ sagt Mike Jucker, der
entdeckte, dass die DÖS (Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz) Surfcommunity,
mitten im ganzen XXL Zirkus vergessen wurde. Dies soll nun geändert werden.
Gesucht wird ein Bild der größten Welle, die ein DÖS jemals gesurft hat oder bis
Ende 2009 noch surfen wird.
Einzige Einschränkung ist, dass der Teilnehmer kein Profisurfer ist und auch in
DÖS gemeldet ist.
Gleichzeitig sucht Mike Jucker Hawaii noch das Beste DÖS Surffoto aller Zeiten.
Es dürfen alle Bilder teilnehmen, die mit Surfen im Zusammenhang stehen.
Wer die größte Welle 2009 gesurft hat, entscheidet das Mike Jucker Komitee.
Das beste Surffoto aller Zeiten wird von den Usern im World Wide Web auf der
Votingpage entschieden. Die Contests laufen bis zum 31.12.2009.
Als Hauptpreise winken den glücklichen Gewinnern ein Flug nach Maui und ein
Original Kazuma Surfboard aus Hawaii und noch jede Menge anderer Preise.

Eve Meier sent us her story how she fell in love with surfing and how it changed her life quit significantly. After traveling to Costa Rica she liked surfing so much that she decided to become a Swiss living abroad and surf every day. Now after 5 years she owns a Surf School with her husband and still enjoys surfing every day.

After five days of competition the Swiss team can look at a good overall performance and a 20th rank among 29 teams from around the world. Marc Walter was the best Swiss surfer, making it to round four before loosing in challenging and inconsistent conditions.

Some more elimination rounds were surfed today, and this is reflected in the Swiss team. Two men are left for the next day of competition, Marc Walter and Thierry Andre.
The day started with two heat wins: Marc Walter defeated Venezuela, France and Jamaica to become first in his heat. Marc Jucker also won his bodyboard heat against Puerto Rico, Peru and Ireland. The Marcs were on it!
Marc Walter also made it through his next heat and again eliminated Puerto Rico and Ireland, in bodyboard Marc Jucker could only make it to the third place and exited the competition at this stage.
In the afternoon the two girls who had surfed into the second round were confronted with some solid surfing from the other competitors in Surf Women. Anja and Celine were relegated to the forth places.
That leaves the Swiss Team with two surfers: Marc Walter and Thierry Andre.

Today was a day to forget of the World Surfing Games. In very small and inconsistent conditions it was a lottery in many heats, and two Swiss surfers were eliminated before they called the contest off for the day.
Mattieu Honegger and Dorian Stäheli were eliminated from competition this morning in very poor surf. The contest had been previously delayed due to the bad conditions, but then started when the tide started to push a bit. Mattieu just couldn’t find a way through his heat against in form surfers in the small waves. Dorian’s heat was much closer. He was only missing a very make able score, but the waves just didn’t come. Marc Jucker also had a hard time finding the right waves to show what he can do. It just was a lottery today… Luckily, the contest was called off before the heats of repercharge 2 of both Marcs!
Competition will resume tomorrow, hopefully as a forecasted swell arrives. It’s going to be a long day of competition, and the rounds are all elimination rounds.

Today was the first day of elimination rounds. The girls and two of the boys made it through in inconsistent surf. Tomorrow there’s more of the same as the heats get harder and the waves stay the same.
Marc Walther made it through his heat of first round of repercharge. Mattieu Honegger was lucky with his heat draw and will meet Marc in the second round of repercharge. It will not get any easier as the level of surfing is already very high. Vincent Guillemaud and Rodrigo Gianonni noticed this as they were eliminated in their heats. Anja Hürlimann and Celine Gehret both made second in their heats of repercharge after loosing their heat of main round. So there are still seven Swiss remaining in the Event as the competition heads into a very busy day tomorrow with many divisions and eliminations coming up.

Today was a hard day for the Swiss surfers. Coming up against the top seeds the good performance shown by the smallest surfing nation was not enough to make it trough the first round. The day of tomorrow will offer a second chance for the Swiss surfers and also it will be time for the ladies to hit the water.
Marc Walter, Mattieu Honegger, Vincent Guillemaud and Rodrigo Giannoni shared the same fate today as the came up against top seeded nations USA, South Africa, Spain and Mexico. They fought hard but came short in the end and will have to start from round one of repercharge. Head up boys, you did well and the opponents in your next heat will know that the Swiss are not to be underestimated!
A very exciting day of competition awaits us tomorrow! The ladies division will finally hit the water for the first rounds. Due to an unfortunate position in the seeding list both Swiss female surfers, Celine Gehret and Anja Hürlimann, will surf in the same heat. Hopefully they can support each other in the water and put some pressure on their opponents. The surf open division will go into round one of repercharge giving a second and last chance to the male surfers. So don’t miss it and stay tuned for updates and pictures!

After the firs day of competition the first rounds of Bodyboard Open, Bodyboard Ladies and Longboard are in the books. Marc Jucker was the only Swiss to advance trough the main round; the other surfers will face the challenging repercharge round. Tomorrow the main division, Surf Open, will hit the water and 48 heats will be surfed at both podiums!
The bodyboarders and longboarders surfed in excellent conditions today at the beaches of Costa da Caparica. Marc Jucker was able to qualify for the second main round. His second position, eliminating Argentina and Costa Rica, was only topped by defending world champion Manuel Centeno. Dorian Stäheli did very well in his heat, doing some big and critical manoeuvres but came short of the Portuguese and Argentinean bodyboarders. Toeether with Thierry Andre, who had a very hard draw and came in 3rd in his longboard heat, he will resume competition trough the repercharge round.
Tomorrow, the Surf Open division starts with 32 heats of round 1 and 16 heats of round 2. The four Swiss surfers had a very hard draw, and will face international stars like Ben Bourgeois and Nat Young in their heats. But it’s not over till it’s over so make sure you check the action on the (link) live webcast!

Portugal. After 10 days of preparation in the Sudden Rush Training House at the Surfcamp Baleal in the area of Peniche the Surfers of the Swiss Team are ready to start with the competition in very good waves in Costa da Caparica.
 In cooperation with Sudden Rush the Swiss Surfing Team 2008 had 10 days of preparation and training in the Surfcamp Baleal. After a guiding by the local experts from the camp the Swiss surfers enjoyed some very good waves in the Peniche and Ericeira area. Supertubos, Coxos, Ribeira d’Ilhas and Almagreia were some of the spot where the preparation took place. At the end of the stay an intensive coaching took place, to prepare the team for the tactics of competitive surfing. While knowing that the Swiss are underdogs at the upcoming events with big surfing nations and well known names, the good groundwork helped the waveriders to get in shape and focused.
 Today the traditional Parade of Nations took place in Costa da Caparica, the host city. Delegations of very participating country presented their teams in a colourful display and mixed the sands of their beaches at the Sands of the World Ceremony. Afterwards Fernando Aguerre, president of the International Surfing Association ISA declared the start of the Games.
 The ISA World Surfing Games are the biggest surf event in the world. With 30 countries participating and almost 300 athletes, competition is going to be intense and interesting over the course of the next week. The big surfing nations are not holding back, and stars like CJ Hobgood, Dayyan Neve or Ben Bourgoise are going to show the highest level of surfing of the planet. The waves have been clean and good over the course of the last few days and the forecast looks promising for the next couple of days. There is a live webcast of the event on www.wsg2008.com , so make sure you don’t miss the action of the Swiss Surfing Team!

Swiss Surfing Championships
The evening
before the contest starts (Wednesday evening) there will be a surfers meeting at 20:00. The Meeting
point is the Wavexperience Surfcamp, Camping Municipal Les Sableres, Vieux
Boucau . Competition format will be explained and the condition for the 4
competition days assessed. The surfer meeting is the deadline for inscriptions
and payments of the competition fee (on site or online). A call for start of
the competition will be made at the surfer meeting or at 8:00 next morning.
Please note: Competition can start as early as 8:00 on the 25.9.!
